An ‘anchorman’ is a news reader who reads the main news on television. I wanted to have a character in ‘News From Nowhere’, who could act as the show’s anchorman and I chose to base this character on ‘The Two Ronnies’, a famous British comedy sketch of two news readers behind a desk reading fictitious comedic news stories.
Although the two ‘Ronnies’ double act of Ronnie Barker and Ronnie Corbett, looked dramatically different in appearance from each other; one short one rotund, they were characterised by their distinctive matching pair of spectacles. |
