The word zenith derives from the inaccurate reading of the Arabic word «samt» meaning «path». Pronounced ‘sent’ by scribes in the Middle Ages when using the expression «samt arrâs» («path above the head»). It has come to represent the direction pointing directly above a particular location or the highest point above yourself.
Zenith was first exhibited in ‘News From Nowhere’, an exhibition curated by Justin Hibbs for the Lucy Mackintosh gallery. |
