Nature has become rare in our daily life. Many of us pass the largest part of the day in
artificial, perpetual spaces where conditioned climates and 24 hour lighting cover any difference
between day or night. As natural elements like a lifting breeze, a sudden shower and a setting
sun are planned out of our surrounding, the timeline of the every day is lost.
Fake plants that reveal real nature. A living digital organism growing on the walls
and floors of an indoor space, that reacts to the actual nature of its location and
reveals the character of a space. The projected silhouettes are alive; they grow
depending on actual measured rainfall and sunshine, move directly on actual
wind, and throughout the day turn along with the sun. The plants are not predrawn
or animated, but uniquely generated by the software and the space they
reside in. A lightweed consists of a several hundred parts that are independently
linked to the sensors outside, creating a hyper-real motion that is constantly live
generated. At the start of the day they are few, but as the space is being used
they pollenate from wall to wall and increase in amount. Their seeds travel along
with passing people, and make new plants grow. Because the way the plants
grow, behave, pollenate and die is completey defined by the space, they make up
continiously evolving combinations that are never equal.
